Tips and Tricks

Tips + Tricks!

  • When smoothing out any air-bubbles, try working the air from the inside to the outside edges.
  • If you happen to ruin one of your duct tape pieces in the process, you can always cut a piece of tape off of your household roll (just make sure it's the same size)!
  • Try not to make your custom design too small or fine details it won't wear very well.
  • You can protect your custom design/shape by painting a thin layer of clear nail polish around the edges of the shape.
  • If your wallet starts to collect dirt and gunk, you can clean your wallet with a household adhesive remover! Just put some Goo-Gone on a Q-Tip and clean where needed.
  • If you can't duct it, forgetaboutit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will myDuctbill last?

We've been making wallets for 9 years and we've done all we can to ensure that these wallets are built to last. Everyone treats their wallets differently; however, we estimate that a well built Ductbill Wallet will last 2-3 years. To extend the life of the wallet, we recommend cleaning it periodically and storing it in your FRONT pocket

Do these wallets get sticky?

Of course Duct Tape has the tendency to get sticky but in our product development, we've done everything we can to minimize the amount of exposed adhesive and trouble spots. Because you won't find much raw adhesive, Ductbill wallets do really well at staying clean and stick free.

If your wallet starts to collect dirt and gunk, you can always clean your wallet with a household adhesive remover! Just put some Goo-Gone on a Q-Tip and clean where needed.

Where do I get more colored tape?

Our best source for colored Duct Tape is through identi-tape.com. WeÍve been getting our colored tape from this website since the beginning! Tell Carl Hi from the db clay crew!

What kind of duct tape do you use?

You'll notice our Duct Tape is a bit different than your household role. We use a custom industrial grade tape that is built to last. In some cases, we've already stuck two pieces together for you and engineered our very own Duct Tape Fabric... adhesive free, highly durable and easy to work with!

What surface do you use to cut your tape?

If you're making a Duct Tape Wallet from scratch, we find that self-healing cutting mats work best for laying and cutting Duct Tape pieces. Of course, if you're using the myDuctbills Kit, all you need is scissors.

How do you get your designs to last so long?

The trick to decorating a Ductbill is to create a design that isn't too fine or detailed. Larger block images will be much more durable in the long run. You can always improve the durability of your design by painting a thin coat of clear nail polish around the edges of your shape. This should keep the edges of your design from peeling and fraying.

How do you get your wallets to be so flat?

Our Duct Tape Wallets are extremely thin and flexible by nature. Through the years we've worked hard at minimizing the amount of tape we use within each wallet and thus created one of the flattest wallets on the market. We recommend pressing your completed wallet under a heavy book or flat object so that your Billfold can remember its fold. The longer you press your wallet under a heavy object, the flatter it will stay.
